An Atheist until yesterday!

Yesterday, me and my mom, went out shopping to buy some puja items. While I was busy parking vehicle near pavement, my mom was busy with her purchase in the Puja store as temples were about to open in a couple of days after the COVID lockdown, and almost all puja stores were overwhelming with customers. So we had to wait in the long queue. And I noticed a blind man, with the little girl approaching us.

“Oh no, I guess he’s approaching me. These people don’t even allow us to shop peacefully. Now, they’re going to embarrass me by asking for alms. Should I give them money? Should I provide them meals instead? Can just a meal satisfy their needs? What if he needs some medicine? Maybe that little girl requires some money? Is it always necessary, always to help others? What if they were acting? Should I ignore them? Don’t turn Raghavi….please don’t! Oh God, they are nearing me. Let me give them some coins so that they move away. But there are high chances they being COVID-19 carriers.”

In a fraction of seconds, all these thoughts went through my mind. And to my surprise, they stood in line behind me. How shameful I should be for judging someone based on their appearance and physical condition.

While the little girl was searching for something in her bag, that lanky gentleman suddenly slipped from the walking path and fell on road. She helped him to get up and wiped sand on this shirt. ” Why are you in such a hurry?” she scolded him, but he smiled and replied, ” I know you won’t let anything happen to me, dear!”

I bet at least once, in our lifetime, we all would have questioned the existence of the so-called Almighty, irrespective of whatever religions we follow. I have done it several times until yesterday that I understood, the blind gentleman was seeing the world through his daughter’s eyes, and for him, his little daughter is God.

Until yesterday, I was an atheist, but now I am an agnostic Atheist!
